INTERVIEW |
GAIA BAROUDI, TABLE STYLIST EXPERT
Gaia Baroudi, a renowned expert in the art of tablescaping, has made a name for herself in the world of design with her impeccable sense of style and a unique talent for transforming ordinary tables into stunning visual feasts. In this interview, we will delve into Gaia’s passion for tablescaping, her creative process, and gain insights into her remarkable journey as a tablescaping expert.
What inspired you to pursue a career in Tablescaping, and how did you initially enter the industry?
Hosting is my passion, influenced by the gracious women in my upbringing. They instilled in me an appreciation for beautifully set tables and meticulous details. Creating beauty in my surroundings, whether a space or a table, brings me joy.
This passion was further ignited when I helped a friend set up his restaurant/bar for an event upon moving into my home with my husband.
Could you share the most memorable table you have set so far and elaborate on what made it stand out?
I designed a stunning table at La Centrale in Beirut for a private Thanksgiving dinner. It featured an array of fruits, vegetables, and mythological elements like “Corne d’Abondance” for prosperity. Dark brown African pottery and bronze candle holders with gold leaf accents added warmth and drama. Named “at Arcimboldo’s table” as a tribute.
What aspect of Tablescaping do you find most enjoyable, and why?
I would say the outcome. To see an idea becoming reality, to have a story to tell and be able to express it through my Tablescape. Having a table beautifully set for a dinner is a game-changer. I love the way it transforms the whole vibe of a place through its richness and warmth… It instantly sets the mood for an enchanting night, making guests feel greeted and cared for.
In your opinion, what are the current trends in Tablescaping?
I think Tablescaping, in general, is becoming very trendy as people enjoy hosting in their homes more and more, and understand the added value of an appealing table setup. As for the current trends in Tablescaping, I can’t really say as I don’t believe in following trends. I personally believe that the beauty of something comes from its uniqueness.
If given the opportunity, which celebrity would you most like to plan an event for, and what makes them the ideal choice?
For me, it isn’t really who but where. I get very inspired by places I find beautiful. I love adapting my Tables and Set Ups to different spaces, cultures, and environments.
Lastly, could you provide some tips for creating a stunning table setup?
Always go for what nature has to offer… Add some fruits to your setup to give it life, work on different levels to avoid making your table look flat. Use quality objects.
