BEIRUT EXPLOSION: HOW TO SUPPORT NGOS & INITIATIVES
Beirut was shaken to its core on August 4. The massive explosion at Beirut Port has not only claimed lives, it has also cost people their homes and businesses. If you want to help but don’t know where to start, here are some NGOs, associations and groups that are supporting those most affected by providing them with food.
BEIT EL BARAKA
This NGO supports Lebanon’s elderly by providing food, health care and accommodation. With many more vulnerable senior citizens impacted by the Beirut disaster, donations are welcome on beitelbaraka.org.
CHEFS FOR LEBANON
Created by chefs Tara Khattar and Kristin O’Connor, this group is raising money to buy ingredients for chefs to prepare meals for victims of the disaster.
DAFA CAMPAIGN
Dafa provides assistance to underprivileged people in Lebanon, and they are calling for volunteers to distribute food and water. They are also asking for urgent donations of food, water, nylon sheets and masking tape, among other items. Check out Dafa’s Facebook page for more information.
CARITAS
World Food Programme and Caritas are partnering to provide hot meals and sandwiches to victims of the Beirut blast. Get involved.

FOODBLESSED
Foodblessed is a local hunger-relief and food-rescue initiative run by a group of volunteers. During this state of emergency, Foodblessed is encouraging donations on its website, foodblessed.org, where you can also find details about volunteering.

This nonprofit organization was established to eliminate hunger across Lebanon by creating partnerships between all those concerned.

WORLD CENTRAL KITCHEN
In partnership with restaurants, kitchens and chefs, World Central Kitchen is serving thousands of meals each day to different locations to support those affected by the port explosion.

AHEBO BA3DOUKON BA3EID
Chef Sleiman Khawand has been offering 1,000 meals per day to people in need, which has been ramped up 1,500 meals since the explosion. They need raw ingredients such as chicken, meat, milk, pasta, oil, cheese, etc. as well as volunteers to help in the kitchen.

FEED BEIRUT
Through her central kitchen in Achrafieh, Maya Bekhazi Noun has set up an emergency kitchen to help distribute hot meals to the needy in the area through prominent NGOS and several distribution points. Volunteers are needed to helping with logistics.
